Darien is 13 square miles in area surrounded by Norwalk, Stamford, New Canaan and 16.5 miles of Long Island Sound shoreline. A community with an excellent school system, more than 90% of its graduates continue their education. Its library is ranked among the top 10 nationally in its size category; 88% of Darien residents hold a library card. Manhattan is less than an hour away via Metro North rail service from Darien Station.
Outdoor activities are an important part of life in Darien. The Parks and Recreation Department controls 12 town park facilities totaling almost 210 acres of space including nature preserves, swimming and boating areas. Nine private clubs offering beaches, swimming, golf, tennis, yachting and horseback riding to their members.
A wide range of services and a shopping are offered primarily on Post Road that runs through the center of town. Darien is ideally located to take advantage of shopping in the surrounding towns.
